Daisy Spears Stroud “Academic Achievement” Scholarship Award
The Daisy Spears Stroud – “Academic Achievement” Award is a one-year award that recognizes a female high school senior enrolled in a Mecklenburg County school and who has excelled academically. Academic excellence has always been a part of Soror Stroud’s life. She entered Fayetteville State University (FSU) after graduating from Second Ward High School at the tender age of 15. After graduating from Fayetteville State Univ. in 1941, Soror Stroud dedicated her life to a career in education, serving the children of Charlotte-Mecklenburg for thirty years. “Miss” Daisy, as she was affectionately called, had been an active member of the Charlotte Alumnae Chapter for over thirty years and was an intricate partner in advocating to ensure the success of the Deltas of Charlotte Foundation. |
As a community activist and visionary, Miss Daisy spoke out and wrote editorials to bring awareness to social justice issues. She successfully worked in the community to ensure programs and services were available to those most in need. Miss Daisy’s efforts and community impact were recognized by our State by her receipt of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, which is the highest award bestowed to a civilian by the Governor of NC. |
Award disbursement of $2,500 minimum, based on verified college enrollment for Fall 2024
- Must be a graduating African-American female senior
- Must be a student enrolled in a Mecklenburg County public or private school
- Must have a weighted cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
- Must plan to attend a four-year institution of higher education in the U.S. during the upcoming academic year
