Daisy Spears Stroud – “Academic Achievement” Award


The Daisy Spears Stroud – “Academic Achievement” Award is a one-year award that recognizes a female high school senior enrolled in a Mecklenburg County school and who has exceled academically.




 

Academic excellence has always been a part of Soror Stroud’s life. She entered Fayetteville State University (FSU) after graduating from Second Ward High School at the tender age of 15.  After graduating from Fayetteville State Univ. in 1941, Soror Stroud dedicated her life to a career in education, serving the children of Charlotte- Mecklenburg for thirty years. “Miss” Daisy, as she is affectionately called, has been an active member of the Charlotte Alumnae Chapter for over thirty years and has been an intricate partner in advocating to ensure the success of the Deltas of Charlotte Foundation. 

 

As a community activist and visionary, Miss Daisy has spoken out and written editorials to bring awareness to social justice issues. She has successfully worked in the community to ensure programs and services were available to those most in need.  Miss Daisy’s efforts and community impact were recognized by our State by her receipt of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, which is the highest award bestowed to a civilian by the Governor of NC.
